Our Story
About
2020 hit us by storm. We’re dealing with a pandemic, the threat of a global recession, and civil unrest. I lost my job, health insurance, and my sense of stability. Like many of us during this time, I felt anxious, sad, angry, fearful and a whole other range of emotions. When we’re feeling lost, we sometimes look around for inspiration. When I need inspiration, I think of my friend Nick.
Nick was one of my sister's best friends growing up. His intense positivity was infectious to all around him. He encouraged me to go to the same college as him and when I did, he took me under his wing. He saw potential in me and empowered me to build real confidence. He would remind me that I can’t control all of my circumstances but I can control my mindset, my commitment to personal development, and my ability to serve others. This brings me peace and allows me to live a fulfilled life. He was a mentor, friend, and life guide.
Nick was a huge fan of John Mayer and was planning on getting a tattoo with the lyrics, “Keep me where the light is.” He suddenly passed away before he could get this tattoo but this mantra has stuck with me. Nick lived in light. His inner light poured out of him. Nick's light continues on earth and lives in all the lives he’s touched. Always Where the Light Is was created to continue his legacy by helping others live their legacy. We are always where the light is because we all have light within us. It’s up to us to see that light, be that light, and spread that light. That’s our motto: see light, be light, spread light.
This is especially important for women of color. My vision is a world where all women of color see their infinite inner light, embody that light, and spread it around them.
AWLI is a website where you can come to find inspirational content, resources for self-development, and ways to spread your inner light. It's a place you can visit to find inspiration through quotes, books, and videos. You can find tools to help you in your self-development journey and you can find organizations and methods to help you serve. Our mission is to encourage people to see their inner light, grow that light, and spread it around them. I hope AWLI sparks and fans more flames within you.

My name is Fanta Sissoko and I'm excited you're here! My personal mission is to encourage people to continuously progress to their next level of personal success. I've always been passionate about personal development. For me, there's no better feeling than recognizing my own growth and the growth of those around me.
I started Always Where the Light is with the hope that people would be able to get inspiration, resources for personal development, and methods to live as elevated versions of ourselves. We're always where the light is because there is always a light within us. My vision is to live in a world where everyone recognizes that light, embodies it, and spreads it to those around them.
